At Aesthetic Smiles of New Jersey, supporting our troops is something we care deeply about. Since 2007, our dentists, Edward Romano, DDS and Matthew Vaccaro, DDS, have held an ongoing donation drive where patients can bring in nonperishable items for U.S. soldiers. Once enough items fill a donation box, our office mails it to the United Services Organization.
Each year, our cosmetic dentist chooses a specific soldier and unit to send care packages to throughout the year. Dr. Romano explains that the soldier he sponsors is generally someone he knows, which is especially rewarding. “That way it’s a personal touch,” he says. “We know it’s going to a specific soldier and unit. It kind of gives us a touch of home too because it’s a guy from our own backyard that we are taking care of.” This year’s soldier is a 25 year-old young man.
For Dr. Romano, supporting the troops is an undertaking with personal ties as both his father and cousin were members of the military. We invite everyone interested to come into our dental office and demonstrate their support for the men and women who put their lives at risk. Whether you wish to donate socks, batteries, candies (a sweet treat we make a special exception for), or any other non-perishable items, Drs. Romano and Vaccaro say the care packages are warmly received by the troops. In the past, some soldiers have even stopped by upon their return to say ‘thank you’ to our dentists and all who participated in the donation drive.
Truly, a few small items from home can go a very long way.
